After learning about tonal graduation in the lesson, our homework was to set up an arrangement of 5 objects and do a full tonal drawing on an A3 size paper. For my 5 objects I chose a book, a ring, a pop figure, a snow globe and a cactus.
I started with a ruff sketch of the objects, checking the proportions are correct using the sight method and their basic shapes. Once I had sharpened up the sketches yI located the lightest and darkest tones on all the objects as this would help when adding tone. Shortly after this I added a base tone to each object so that i could build up tones in places I needed them and having a better tonal gradation then having solid white, grey and black shading. Most objects I chose had little to no texture other than the cloak on the pop figure which I recreated using circular marks once again building this up.
The object I found the hardest to draw was the snow globe as the glass had many different, weird reflections of light, mostly transparent and due to it having the shadow of the cactus over it, the figure had a mostly solid tone. However I overcame this by using the different shades of the figure to my advantage when adding different tones to this object.
Overall in my opinion this homework turned out really well as theres a range of tones in the drawing and it has improved my tonal skills.
