Significance of Age, Gender and Culture in Game Design

In one of our lessons we were given a statistics sheet which included some good information.


For example:

This statistic is very interesting as although gender stereotypes have come a long way and video games are becoming less advertised towards men, they are still often used as the main, powerful character and the icon of the game. As shown by this statistic:

It is clear that the gender of players is equaling out yet some game designers are still using a male characters as the face of the game, even if the game isn't targeted at an all male audience.


Another interesting statistic is:

I find this statistic interesting because, although sexualised female protagonists has decreased, female characters in games are still sexualised wether it's due to their clothing, actions or characteristics. Many female characters, even strong protagonists, are shown to have very little clothing compared to male characters.
