We started this lesson out by looking at some of the basic tools such as how to navigate, scale and insert 3D objects.
I first added a cube and scaled it to 75x75x75cm; this will make it easier when making and adding the texture. We then went into UV to get the net ,as this is needed for texturing, and changed separated the faces by changing it to automatic and then changed the layout of the faces in order to use up as many pixels as possible by going to modify > layout > changing the packing resolution to 2048 and shell padding to 40. After this I snapshotted the nets as I was about to start texturing.
Once I was on Photoshop, I opened up the snapshot and added a solid black background as this would make it easier to see the segments. As this was our first lesson we just got a wooden crate texture offline; I chose this dark, worn texture which was 2048cm cubed as this included lots of detail and will easily fit the face nets. After I had imported the texture and fit it in the net I saved it to the folder and went back into Maya.
I imported the texture by going to colour > file > and picked out my texture. As I wanted to experiment with texturing I went back to photoshop and added in the 'Fragile' stamp and rotated some faces in order to make the design look more realistic; this automatically changed in Maya.
Overall, I really liked my first lesson and am proud as to how my wooden crate turned out.
