Horror VR Trailer

Updated: Dec 4, 2019

At the start of this project we were given a brief; to create a prototype for an upcoming horror VR game, inspired by the release of IT Chapter 2. This prototype had to include a Production Company Logo, game actions (Enter or Leave, ect.), an environment walk through and a monstrous reveal at the end. For this project I teamed up with David, Cade and Charlie.

We started with coming up with some basic story lines, creatures, characters and events, which was processed through mind maps and storyboards. During this we thought of many different ideas and stories which we were stuck on choosing, until I voiced a location I thought would be perfect for this project. This location, which we ended up shooting at, was an open, abandoned house in the area and from this location choice we adapted a fitting story line. We settled on the idea of a Policeman investigating a disturbance call within this house, but slowly loses his mind as he gets lured further into the building. Originally this story included a balloon which would catch the characters attention and lure them in, but due to prop issues we scrapped this idea.

After finalizing a storyboard, filling out a risk assessment and given permission, we began filming. For the project we used my personal equipment which included a camera, light box camera attachment and stabilizer as this would be easier to transport to the location as I lived nearby and I was familiar with all the equipment. Due to this, I took the responsibility of being the camera man, leaving David taking over the role of Director from me, and charlie being in charge of all props and extras. As we had the vision of a deformed human creature, we got Harvey to be the character which well later use to track features on his face.

Before we set off filming, we addressed most of the issues we would face while at our location and how we were going to overcome them. One of our main concerns was the uneven flooring as there was some holes and rubble scattered throughout the bottom floor; this is why we mapped out the camera path when we went to check the location out ahead of time. Along with marking areas we thought may be a risk, we thought it would be safest to not film on any other floors in the building other then the ground floor as we couldn't accurately determine a secure and safe pathway.
