Bouncing Ball 3D Animation

Updated: Feb 6, 2020

For my bouncing ball animation I used a 3D ball rig already set up in Maya. I started off with my first key frame, the ball being as it is, then moving to frame 3, stretching the ball out and making that a key frame. At the 8th frame I lifted the ball up wards to start its first arch, returning the ball to its original shape, and keying this frame. For the next frame I moved the ball slightly, making this the peak of this arch and then started to bring the ball down. On the 15th frame, just as the ball was about to hit the ground I once again stretched out the ball, creating a gravitational effect, and when the ball made contact with the ground the ball was squished. This made my first arched bounce. I then repeated these frames two more times, making each bounce smaller then the previous one, making it look as if the ball was losing momentum.

Unfortunately I didn't take any screenshots as I was doing this animation but will redo this animation in order to show my process.

Overall, I am happy with how my bouncing ball 3D animation turned out and would like to expand and experiment with it further.
